- A Tour of the Falls
Victoria Falls is surrounded by wilderness and big game country, where elephant, buffalo and even lion roam. The Zambezi National Park upstream of the Falls offers many different safari tour options, from half-day, full day and multi-day safaris.
Half-day and full-day safari options include exploring the Zambezi National Park with a variety of guided bush walks and game drive safaris and Zambezi River safaris, horse safaris, or visit a black rhino captive breeding project were you can undertake night-time game drives. You can even discover the wonders of a Chobe Day Safari, in neighbouring Botswana.
There's also wealth of multi-day safari options available, taking advantage of the many safari lodges and national parks in the Victoria Falls region, including Zambezi National Park upstream of the Victoria Falls, overnighting in safari lodges situated on the banks of the Zambezi, explore Hwange National Park with a choice of accommodation and safari options, or an extended visit to Chobe National Park in Botswana. Contact us for tailor-made itineraries depending on your requirements.
Please note that we also do not believe that wild animals should be used in captive-interactions for tourists, and as such we do not sell elephant-back safaris or lion walks, both of which operate in Victoria Falls, and which we encourage you to also avoid.
Probably one of the finest ways to view game is on the back of a horse. The game allows you to get closer than you would in a vehicle. Riding in the National Park areas which surround Victoria Falls, you will hopefully get up close and personal with big game such as buffalo and elephant as well as enjoying the magnificent scenery, riverside views and varied wildlife.
Explore the 57,000 ha Zambezi National Park which stretches upstream from the Falls, with half-day and full day guided game drives. Half day trips set off either in the early morning or afternoon. The park offers scenic views of the river, strong populations of local wildlife including elephant, buffalo, zebra and many antelope species, and is also home to lion, leopard and wild dog.
Explore the 4,000 hectare Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve, a fenced conservation area established in 1996. This wilderness area has been transformed into a diversity-rich wildlife reserve – home to several flagship conservation programs including a black rhino breeding programme (under intensive guard to prevent poaching). A mere 15 minutes drive from Victoria Falls the game drive will offer you almost 90 percent chance of seeing the endangered black rhino in its natural environment.
For those who want to experience the wonders of the Zambezi River at a slightly more subdued pace, canoeing on the upper river is the way to go. The bird-life and game that has made the banks of the river home can be seen at close range as you paddle yourself down the river. For those with limited time , you can do a half-day or full-day, 18 km canoe trip.
Chobe riverfront, in Botswana, is famous for its elephants and abundance of wildlife. Its close proximity to Victoria Falls makes it an ideal place to go for a day trip, with an early morning pickup and evening drop off back at your accommodation. The day is split into a game drive in Chobe National Park and a cruise on the Chobe River, both providing a wealth of wildlife experiences.
